The Tool Barn

Name:  Drill bit, Spade

Use:  The spade drill bit is normally used for drilling wood.  Especially where a large, clean hole is desired.  The center point guides the bit, the spurs on the edge cut the wood fibers and the edges scrape off the wood, forming a hole.  This bit is especially good for drilling holes that will receive dowels to conceal screws or other hardware.  The spurs keep the bit from tearing out the surrounding wood.  These bits tend to dull fairly quickly but are inexpensive.
