The walls of my house have that swirled/textured finish, and I hate it. So, I’d like to install drywall over the existing walls so that I can get a smooth finish.

My problem is that the walls I’d like to cover have doorways (of course) and windows. When I pulled the trim off of the walls, a problem struck me: when I put 3/8” drywall over the existing wall, the door frame will now be recessed 3/8”, instead of flush with the wallcovering, which it is now. This will not only look strange, but I’m not sure how to put trim over what would result. I assume this will also be the case for the windows.

Anyone have any suggestions how to handle this? Many thanks for any hints or suggestions!

Thanks,
Milan
